About Us
The Jewish community in Lodz was found in 1806 and it still continues the orthodox tradition of the prewar community.
Everyday there is minyan and we gather for for morning and afternoon prayers. Sabbath and all the Jewish calendar festivals are being celebrated.

Within the confines of education there are lectures and studies provided by the “Schomrey HaDat” Jeshiva.
Classes are usually conducted by the chairman of the Jewish community in
Lodz Symcha Keller but also rabbi Efraim Maizels, and by visiting rabbis from Israel: rabbi Abraham Kriger, rabbi Eliahu Kopel.
There is also Yiddish course held by Mrs Lilianna Mitelman.
Systematically every year the range of the topics of the lectures grows.

There are also numerous educational programs designed by the Center of Culture and History of Jews that are aimed at elementary school, secondary
school and higher level public schools from the region.
In 2005 Jewish community brought the Foundation for the Preservation of the Jews Culture Heritage into being.
This foundation not only supports the Center of Culture and History of Jews in their educational mission,  but also runs Yiddish Film Festival.

Jewish community in Lodz is running a guest house “Linat Orhim” that is
serving many youth jewish groups as well as individual tourists.

The community is also taking care of the biggest Jewish cemetery in Europe(40 ha). This particular cemetery is a world class historic monument, preserved by the conservator of monuments. In the south part
of the cemetery there is a ghetto field where there are graves of 45 thousand victims that died in Litzmannstadt Ghetto. The archive of the cemetery is located at the office of the Jewish community in Lodz.
In order to meet todays demands there is a group of people who voluntary take care of those who died.
The name of the group is “Hewra Kadischa”.
Visiting  the cemetery is a top priority for all tourist groups that come to see Lodz.
Cemetery is located at 40 Bracka Street and this is the old entrance with beautiful old gate.
The actual entrance for all the tourists and visitors is nearby, in Zmienna Street.
Jewish community is also taking care of other jewish cemeteries in the region.

In order to provide jewish senior citizens with proper care Jewish community runs Daycare Center that offers multiple choice of organized meetings with rehabilitation staff members.

There is another active organization raised by the community – “Bikur Cholim” that buys medicaments for elderly people and supports financially jewish citizens in a difficult economical situation.
Jewish  community provides its members with high standard glatt kosher canteen. Those who can’t come for meal, they are still provided with the food by volunteers who visit them at home.

In the front yard of the Jewish community buildings there is kosher milk restaurant “Cafe Tuwim”.
Its a great meeting place not only for community members but for all guests and inhabitants of Lodz who want to get a taste of traditional jewish cuisine.

In 2006 Jewish community had a very special anniversary, we celebrated 200 years of existence as a jewish community in Lodz. Because of this special event there was organized o European Rabbi’s Congress for which many important guests came from all over the world.
For this occasion we invited two different music bands: famous Shlomo Bar,
Habrer Hativit and also klazmer chassidic group Achi Rubin.
These performers gave wonderful concerts downtown where there used to be the center of jewish district.

Year 2007 will be well remembered by the city of Lodz.
There was organized a wonderful concert at the Manufaktura center.
Two chassidic performers from Israel Eretz Hatzvi and Leava Band made the whole public dance and cheer.
In 2008 the anniversary was connected with the big celebration of opening a new Mykwa in Lodz.
The Mykwa was built under the supervision of rabbi Gedalia Olsztajn from Israel. It was given a certificate of kosherity from rabbi Minzberg from Jerusalem, Israel and rabbi Dajan Benzion Wosner from Monsey, USA.
For this special occasion we invited many important rabbis from Poland:
Rabbi Haim Glock-chief rabbi of Galicja, the chief rabbi of Poland Michael Schudrich, rabbi Moses Danziger Shlita the son of Aleksander Rebe Shlita.
Our Mykwa serves not only the community but also visiting guests who stay in the guest house “Linat Orchim” for Sabbath.
We invite You to see the gallery with pictures from all the above mentioned events.

Gatherings for everyday davening, celebrating the holidays, classes in “Schomrey HaDat” jeshiva, the one and only guest house ‘Linat Orchim”,
Kosher restaurant “Cafe Tuwim”, Daycare Center for seniors and the Foundation for the Preservation of the Jews Culture Heritage, wonderful concerts for the anniversary of the Jewish community, building and finally opening the new Mykwa that all proves a big progress that has been made in order to rebuilt jewish life in Lodz.
